With the desire to help developing countries develop dialysis to treat unfortunate patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease, and according to one of the members of the Executive Committee (Executive Committee) of the Japanese Dialysis Association : It’s time to let the world know about Japanese Medicine: members of the Executive Committee of the Japanese Dialysis Association, went to East Asian countries in the past year. There is Vietnam visiting and learning about existing Dialysis Centers across Vietnam from North to South, and has provided a lot of support for some of the largest Dialysis Centers in the country, but there is no place to go. However, according to the Japanese side, they feel they can cooperate to develop Dialysis in Vietnam in an approach that meets international standards. By chance, when arriving at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, he met the Board of Directors and Associate Professor Pham Van Bui to discuss cooperation in building a Dialysis Center according to Japanese standards, after many meetings; A high-tech Dialysis Center according to Japanese standards, within the framework of cooperation between Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital – Tanakan Uology Center (TUC) – JSDT, was born and inaugurated at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital on December 12. August 2016.
During this period, Ho Chi Minh City only had the Nephrology Association and the Nephrology-Urology Association; there were very few real scientific reports on dialysis and nephrology. And although up to now, artificial kidneys have been available in all provinces and cities, they still do not meet the demand, and the quality of treatment is generally not as expected. On the other hand, activities in this field between the Centers are quite separate, lacking cooperation, information, and experience exchange to improve the quality of treatment, and enhance the professional qualifications of doctors, nurses, and technicians. These are the reasons why the establishment of a professional association is indispensable. On the one hand, it is to create a playground where colleagues have the opportunity to meet and exchange knowledge and expertise, and to conduct large-scale, multi-center research to gradually bring the field of nephrology and dialysis to approach and reach a level equal to that of other countries in the world. On the other hand, the Association is very necessary to be able to create connections and cooperation with related associations around the world. It must be said that this is a prerequisite for us to be able to develop and take advantage of advances in the world, thereby improving our level and knowledge to better serve patients.
At the same time, according to JSDT’s opinion and encouragement, we need to have a Society of Nephrology-Dialysis, so that scientific cooperation between the two sides (Japan-Vietnam) is more convenient and reasonable (because in principle JSDT is a scientific society and cannot cooperate).
cooperate with hospital). After being persuaded many times and wanting to take advantage of Japan’s advanced medicine, Associate Professor Pham Van Bui established a Steering Committee to establish the Ho Chi Minh City Nephrology-Dialysis Association, but because the name Nephrology already existed in previous Associations, it was decided to use the name Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association, although the actual field of activity of the current Association is quite broad, in addition to Dialysis, there are also Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Intensive Care… which are very close, closely related specialties, indispensable if medical staff want to practice in the field of Dialysis comprehensively, with quality and depth.

2021: The Science and Technology Conference was not held because the epidemic was raging in Vietnam, especially in Ho Chi Minh City. Dialysis patients are among the patients with the highest mortality rate when infected with Covid. In this situation, the Dialysis LCH organized an online meeting of the Artificial Kidney units in the whole city to find a way to contribute to the City Department of Health to respond and reduce deaths when dialysis patients are infected with Covid-19. The Association proposed the following options:
1/ F1, F2 dialysis patients, or those in the locked-down area in Thu Duc City who are still able to move around normally, will have their dialysis concentrated at the isolated dialysis area of Le Van Thinh Hospital, District 2, and F1 patients will be isolated in the isolated area of Thu Thiem College (145 Le Van Thinh, Binh Trung Dong Ward, Thu Duc City).
2/ F1 and F2 patients with serious underlying diseases must be hospitalized: Patients from which hospital will be treated in the isolation area of that hospital.
3/ Rapid tests and RT-PCR tests should be done for dialysis patients every week and covered by health insurance.
4/ Patients F0, F1, F2 or in locked down areas, need dialysis, including regular dialysis, the filter should be used once, should not be reused, health insurance will also pay for the filter each time, not every 6 times like other normal patients.
5/ Because Trung Vuong Hospital has been converted into a specialized COVID hospital, to avoid spreading the infection to uninfected dialysis patients here, Trung Vuong Hospital’s Dialysis Unit should only provide dialysis for F0 patients, uninfected dialysis patients of Trung Vuong Hospital will be temporarily distributed to other dialysis units (through an online meeting, dialysis units outside Trung Vuong Hospital have agreed to receive these patients as follows: District 2 Hospital: 50 patients – Go Vap Hospital: 20 patients – CR Hospital: 20 patients – 7A Hospital: 10 patients – An Sinh Hospital: 10 patients – District 12 Hospital: 20 patients – An Suong Hospital: 20 patients – Duc Khang Hospital: 20 patients).
6/ Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital continues to treat F1 cases returning from abroad and are in quarantine as assigned.
7/ The Dialysis Association is ready to act as an intermediary between dialysis units in the city to assist in resolving and providing professional advice when requested by hospitals and agencies.
These solutions have contributed to reducing mortality for dialysis patients infected with Covid-19.

– 2024 Dr. Nguyen Duc Loc in collaboration with An Sinh Hospital – Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation: breast and thyroid ultrasound examination for women in preparation for March 8.
6/ International Relations
– The Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association has a close relationship and cooperation with JSDT: there is always an exchange of experts between the two Associations: all conferences of the Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association always have 3-8 JSDT members participating. In contrast, Associate Professor Pham Van Bui and a number of Vietnamese doctors participate in reporting at JSDT conferences every year. In 2017, two doctors who are members of the Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association were sent by JSDT to Japan to participate in a short-term two-week training course with doctors from other countries such as India, Mongolia, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc. The teaching staff of this class includes Prof. Pham Van Bui.
– The Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association has established relationships with universities in the US such as George Town, Northwestern, UCLA, UPenn, Mount Sinai, Virginia, and in the UK such as London. Similar to Japanese experts, at the annual conference of the Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association, there are always professors and experts from these places coming to participate in reporting and teaching.
– The Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association has a close relationship with the International Society of Dialysis (ISBP). Associate Professor Pham Van Bui has been a permanent member of the ISBP Executive Committee since 2019 and has just been elected as ISBP President for the two years 2024-2025.
– Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association is a member of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).
Compared to other Medical and Pharmaceutical Associations, the Ho Chi Minh City Dialysis Association (HLM) is relatively young. However, the establishment of the Association proved to be very necessary because it met the needs of learning and exchanging experiences among members working in hospitals across the country. HLM has also contributed to training and improving the qualifications and skills of colleagues, thereby improving and enhancing the quality of life as well as the survival of patients. Members of the Association participate in many multinational and multi-center international studies; thanks to that, the Association has created a certain level of prestige not only domestically but also internationally.
One of the strengths of HLM is the active cooperation from the Japanese Dialysis Association, and the wide international relations of the Association’s President, Associate Professor Pham Van Bui; so right after its establishment, HLM has also created a wide international relationship, thanks to which in all HLM conferences, there are always foreign professors and experts coming to participate in teaching, giving valuable and in-depth scientific reports that are highly appreciated by colleagues, and contributing significantly to updating knowledge, improving qualifications and skills for members. The number of members participating in conferences as well as applying for membership is constantly increasing, demonstrating the necessity as well as the professional quality that the Association has brought to colleagues.
Although it is a specialized association, the number of members may be limited, but because dialysis patients often have many comorbidities or diseases that cause chronic kidney disease, the topics of activities, discussions, training, and teaching in the Association’s conferences are very broad, related to many specialties from cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, resuscitation, internal medicine and surgery… Treatment of chronic kidney disease and especially treatment of the causes of chronic kidney disease, especially diabetes and hypertension, will help prevent or slow the progression of chronic kidney disease to the stage where renal replacement therapy is needed, which is very costly not only for society but also for patients and their relatives.
In short, although it is a local association, HLM Ho Chi Minh City has created an international stature, cooperated with prestigious associations and universities in the world, creating a bridge to help improve and update knowledge for nurses in health care practice and patient treatment.
With initial achievements, we hope that HLM will grow stronger and stronger, becoming a scientific, research and teaching playground for all colleagues. At the same time, the Association always maintains its prestige, constantly improves its level to stand shoulder to shoulder with other international Associations on the path of scientific activities with the ultimate goal of “all for the patient”.
